Lok Mela Islamabad 2024
Lok Mela 2024, held from November 08-17 in Islamabad, offered a captivating journey into Pakistan's rich and diverse cultural heritage. This year’s festival, commemorating the golden jubilee of Lok Virsa, surpassed all expectations, presenting an array of events including musical nights, a youth pavilion, an international pavilion, and the participation of approximately five hundred artisans, musicians, performers, and entrepreneurs.
The primary aim of Lok Mela was to celebrate Pakistan’s indigenous folk heritage, promote national unity among the country's federating units, and provide a significant platform for master artisans, folk artists, musicians, and dancers to showcase their exceptional talents on a national stage. The festival was organized in collaboration with provincial cultural departments, with all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, actively participating.
The Tourism & Culture Department of Gilgit-Baltistan played a prominent role in Lok Mela 2024, presenting a vibrant and engaging provincial cultural pavilion that highlighted the region’s unique traditions and heritage. Folk dance performances added a dynamic element to the pavilion, bringing traditional culture to life, while artisans worked in an energetic and colorful environment. Visitors were treated to an immersive experience, enjoying a variety of traditional music and dance performances, craft workshops, local cuisine, and much more.
